In a surprising situation that kept visitors and the authorities on edge, SETE, the organization in charge of managing and discovering the emblematic monument, reported that a security operation was carried out that involved experts in the deactivation of explosives and police officers. The delimited area was meticulously searched, even including the inspection of a restaurant that is located on one of the three levels of the structure.
A SETE speaker commented that while these types of procedures are common in similar situations, the rarity of the event did not go unnoticed. The situation broke out around 1:30 in the afternoon (local time), which led to the preventive evacuation of the visitors present on the three floors of the monument as well as in the square located below it, creating a scene of bewilderment and caution.
The alert and uncertainty lasted until around 3:30 in the afternoon, at which time it was thought that it had not threatened and access to the public was allowed to reopen. During that time period, the monument, affectionately known as the “Iron Lady,” will remain closed to the public, showing an unusual lull in its steady stream of visitors.
It should be noted that the “Iron Lady” has continued to be a magnet for lovers of art, history, and architecture, attracting 6.2 million visitors over the past year. This iconic monument not only represents a historical landmark but also a cultural and tourist symbol that continues to fascinate people from all over the world.
