Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has announced that Lionel Messi will leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the season. According to Romano, Messi’s father informed the French club of his decision a month ago due to concerns about the team’s sporting project. Romano had previously stated that Messi had not accepted PSG’s offer due to a lack of guarantees in the team’s sporting project for the next season. Messi’s departure from PSG comes after the club suspended him for two weeks due to an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia. The club called his actions serious internal misconduct and barred Messi from playing, training, and receiving his pay during that period.
Romano explained that Messi had planned to travel to Saudi Arabia during the two days off given to him by PSG, where he serves as a tourism ambassador. However, mid-flight, the team changed its mind and decided to hold a training session, making it impossible for Messi to change his plans and return.
Romano believes that the situation surrounding Messi’s trip has reached a “breaking point,” and things between Messi and PSG are going to be “really complicated.” The general feeling is that Messi and PSG are almost finished after this kind of situation. Therefore, Romano does not see Messi continuing to play for PSG.
