The video game “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” has managed to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide in just three days, making it the most in-demand game of the entire saga, according to the Japanese giant Nintendo. In comparison, the video game “Hogwarts Legacy,” based on the Harry Potter universe, sold more than 15 million units in three months since its launch on February 10.
The new Zelda, highly anticipated by gamers who lined up in front of stores to purchase it since its launch, has managed to become “the fastest-selling game for the Nintendo Switch console” in Europe and the Americas and Nintendo’s best-selling game across all consoles, the company said. In Japan, 2.24 million units were sold.
The “Legend of Zelda” saga, which follows the adventures of Link, an elf in robes armed with a sword, began more than 35 years ago and has sold more than 140 million games worldwide.
The latest installment, “Tears of the Realm,” is the sequel to “Breath of Nature,” released in 2017, which was recognized as one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch and revolutionized the open-world video game format, providing more room for player creativity.
Nintendo’s president in Europe, Stephan Bole, highlighted that seven years after its launch, the Nintendo Switch continues to attract gamers, as does this new record-breaking release. The series, which focuses on adventure and exploration, was created in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s renowned creator and father of iconic characters such as Mario and Donkey Kong.
