This Tuesday, a 7-month-old baby girl died in a tragic incident in Tiffin, Ohio (USA), after a man kidnapped her and crashed the vehicle in which they were escaping while being chased by the police.
According to local authorities cited by the AP, Jonathan Baker, 23, took the baby after having an argument with her mother in North Baltimore. After abducting her, Baker contacted the mother and expressed feeling like a murderer and suicidal, claiming to have killed the child.
The mother immediately alerted police to the abduction and threats, indicating that the suspect was possibly armed. Police issued an alert, and an off-duty officer spotted Baker’s vehicle, a yellow Chevrolet Camaro, matching the description provided and reported it to authorities.
Shortly thereafter, several patrol cars responded to the scene and attempted to stop the suspicious vehicle. However, Baker accelerated at full speed, lost control, and crashed into a house after leaving the roadway.
Officers smashed the rear window of the car to rescue the baby, who was bleeding from her head and having difficulty breathing. She was taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately passed away due to her injuries. As for Baker, he was transported by helicopter to a medical center, where he is in critical condition.
Authorities did not disclose the relationship between the suspect and the child or provide further details on how the abduction was carried out. However, a loaded firearm was found in the Camaro, along with two spent cartridges. This tragic incident remains under investigation as authorities attempt to clarify the details and determine the exact circumstances that led to the baby’s death.
