In an unusual turn of events, a game of golf near Melbourne was momentarily disrupted as hundreds of kangaroos crossed the St. John course at Heritage Golf and Country Club in Victoria, Australia. The remarkable scene was captured on video by Stephen Roche.
The video depicts a large group of hopping kangaroos traversing the fourth hole of the golf course. Roche amusingly comments on the unexpected interruption, noting, “It’s a stampede. Better not stand on my golf ball.”
Kangaroos are known to form troops, herds, or mobs consisting of 50 or more members. These marsupials are capable of reaching speeds of up to 30mph, making their passage across the golf course quite a spectacle.
The incident highlights the unique encounters that can occur in Australia, where wildlife often intersects with human activities. While golfers may have experienced a momentary delay, the unusual visit from these iconic Australian animals likely provided a memorable and entertaining twist to their day on the golf course.
