A first-look photo from the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, reveals the uncanny resemblance between the late King of Pop and his 27-year-old nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Jaafar is captured in a striking pose reminiscent of Michael’s iconic 1990s style, complete with a white button-up, a white V-neck, black pants, and a low ponytail, exuding the legendary performer’s aura on stage.
Producer Graham King expressed his awe at Jaafar’s portrayal, stating, “With Jaafar, every look, every note, and every dance move is Michael. He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could.” Director Antoine Fuqua added that Jaafar goes beyond physical resemblance, capturing Michael’s spirit in a magical way.
Photographer Kevin Mazur, who captured the first-look image, compared the experience to his initial moments shooting Michael Jackson on tour. “Seeing Jaafar perform, I thought, “Wow, it is Michael.” The way he looks and acts, his mannerisms, everythingg—he’s Michael Jackson,” remarked Mazur.
The film, slated for release on April 18, 2025, also stars Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and Miles Teller. Lionsgate’s Michael biopic promises an immersive experience, reuniting a team that includes individuals who previously worked with Michael. The project aims to transport audiences back in time, offering a glimpse into the magic of Michael Jackson’s live performances.
