Jonas Brothers singer Joe Jonas, 34, filed for divorce from actress Sophie Turner, 27, known for her role on “Game of Thrones. The proceedings were carried out in the Court of Miami-Dade County, Florida.
The request states that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”
The couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony at a Las Vegas wedding chapel on May 1, 2019, after the Billboard Music Awards. At the wedding, the country duo Dan + Shay performed a few songs.
Turner and Jonas had a daughter, Willa, in 2020, and last year they welcomed another girl whose name they have yet to reveal.
According to the divorce papers, Jonas is seeking joint custody of the girls. The couple had a prenup that Jonas hopes will go into effect.
Representatives for Jonas and Turner did not immediately respond to requests for comment. However, on Wednesday, both posted identical statements on their Instagram accounts.
“After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the statement read. “There are many speculative narratives as to why, but this really is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our privacy wishes for ourselves and our children.”
The couple had shared in interviews that mutual friends wanted to introduce them when they started communicating via direct messages on Instagram in 2016. They met in person in October of that year and were dating exclusively by December. They announced their engagement in October 2017.
Turner, originally from Northampton, England, played Sansa Stark for eight seasons on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and took on the role of Jean Gray in “X-Men: Apocalypse” in 2016 and “Dark Phoenix” in 2019.
Arizona-born Joe Jonas rose to fame with his brothers Nick and Kevin in a band beginning in 2005 and a Disney Channel series. They released their sixth studio album in May and are currently on a US arena tour.
