The new head of French diplomacy, Stéphane Séjourné, and his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, reiterated on Sunday that their countries will support Ukraine in its war against Russia for “as long as necessary.”
During his first visit as minister to Berlin, Séjourné stated to the press that they are “completely in agreement” on the need to support Ukrainians in the long term. Baerbock echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that support for Kyiv will continue “until Russia withdraws” from Ukrainian territory.
Both diplomats expressed concern that Russian President Vladimir Putin shows no intention of stopping the war, emphasizing that he “will not stop” and “does not want to stop.” These statements aim to allay fears in Kyiv that their Western allies might reduce assistance in combating the Russian invasion that began in February 2022.
France and Germany’s steadfast commitment underscores their determination to send a clear message about the ongoing European support amid the crisis, reaffirming solidarity with the country affected by the Russian invasion.
