Amid a growing debate about the age of political leaders in the United States ahead of the 2024 elections, former President Donald Trump has offered his perspective on the current president, Joe Biden, the oldest president in the nation’s history.
In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump said that Biden “is not too old” to seek a second term, referring to his own age since, if he wins in 2024, Trump would be 78 years old. However, Trump quickly added that he considers Biden “incompetent.”
Trump’s comment comes as Americans debate the age of politicians and their ability to lead. Polls indicate that concern about age is more focused on Biden than Trump, even though the age difference between the two is relatively small.
Trump, who concluded his term as the second-oldest president in US history after Ronald Reagan, noted that many world leaders are over 80 and mentioned that, genetically, he has good prospects for longevity.
The former president also emphasized that his age is not a concern for him. In contrast, Biden, despite the verbal obstacles he has faced in the past due to his stutter, remains physically active and oversees important legislation.
The debate over age and competence continues to be a relevant topic in American politics as the country prepares for the upcoming presidential election.
