Renowned designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana presented a sophisticated men’s collection at Milan Fashion Week on Saturday, revolving around their fetish color, black, celebrating the art of tailoring and Italian luxury craftsmanship.
Emphasizing sober elegance and clean cuts, the duo showcased the collection in a minimalist setting at the Metropol, a former cinema transformed into the brand’s venue. The models strolled with simplicity on two staircases, diverging from extravagant shows saturated with colors and festivals.
The new collection delves into the classic repertoire, reintroducing satin and silk blouses with Lavallière bows, snug double-waisted pants, and long, airy coats. Rejecting excessive embellishments, the creations opt for simple lines, perfect cuts, and noble materials.
The only exception is translucent or transparent lace shirts, accentuating the male physique. The iconic gavroche cap remains a staple accessory for D&G.
Predominantly featuring black, the Dolce & Gabbana color palette includes white, gray, camel, and denim blue.
Among the front-row attendees were billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his partner Lauren Sánchez, whose son Nikko González participated in the runway.
“Today, everything revolves around tailoring, but there is good wine and cheap wine. For us, it is important to distinguish quality,” explained the designers, highlighting the importance of quality amid the contemporary focus on tailoring.
“Young people are drawn to this style” and seek “elegant clothing,” they noted. In February 2021, they tailored a collection for the TikTok generation, featuring streetwear and vibrant colors.
“When quality triumphs, influencers automatically fall,” they asserted, referring indirectly to Italian influencer Chiara Ferragni, under investigation for fraud.
