In an emotional return to the court, Bronny James, the talented 19-year-old son of NBA legend LeBron James, made his debut in college basketball on Sunday. The young player took the court with the University of Southern California (USC), facing off against Long Beach State.
This special moment was witnessed by his famous father, LeBron James, who, from the stands, not only cheered on his son but also captured the significant event on his cellphone. Bronny received medical clearance in November to return to basketball after suffering a cardiac arrest during a training session in July.
The young prospect, closely followed by his prominent father, chose to play for USC in May. Despite being diagnosed and treated for a congenital heart defect in August, Bronny showed his courage and dedication by returning to court.
The Galen Center in Los Angeles was packed with excited spectators, including the James family, with Zhuri, the daughter, and Bryce, the brother, who also plays basketball at Sierra Canyon High School.
Bronny James received a warm ovation upon entering the game, showcasing his skills with a block reminiscent of his father. Although he missed his only shot in the first half, he scored with a three-pointer in the second, generating excitement among fans and, especially, his proud father, LeBron.
The basketball community celebrated Bronny’s return, highlighting the special significance of this moment for the James family. Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns expressed, “Welcome back to the game you love, Bronny.”
