Airbus, the aircraft manufacturer, has for the first time delivered an aircraft assembled in Tianjin, China, to a European customer. Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air took delivery of the A321neo aircraft at an event in Tianjin. The aircraft is the largest member of the A320 family and can carry up to 244 passengers. The General Manager of the Airbus Delivery Center in Tianjin, Christoph Schrempp, has described this delivery to a European airline as a milestone for the company.
Against the backdrop of China’s strong economic recovery, Airbus’ FAL (Final Assembly Line) Asia in Tianjin has continued to increase its assembly capacity to meet the demand of more international customers and give a boost to the global aviation market, according to Schrempp.
The FAL in Tianjin, opened in 2008, was Airbus’ first commercial aircraft assembly line outside Europe. Since then, it has delivered more than 600 aircraft, starting with the delivery of the A320 in 2009. In response to growing demand for the A321 aircraft, Airbus announced plans in 2021 to expand the capacity of its FAL in Tianjin, including production of this popular model. In April this year, Airbus confirmed that it would build a second final assembly line in Tianjin to expand production capacity for the A320 airliner family and meet demand from customers around the world.
