After enchanting audiences on the stage for two decades, the iconic musical “Wicked” is set to captivate moviegoers as it makes its highly anticipated transition to the big screen this holiday season. Promising to be a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event, “Wicked” unveils the untold story of the witches of Oz.
Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo takes on the role of Elphaba, a young woman with green skin who grapples with being misunderstood and is yet to discover her true power. Joining her is Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman driven by privilege and ambition, also on a journey of self-discovery.
Set against the backdrop of Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz, the film follows the unlikely yet profound friendship between Elphaba and Glinda. The star-studded cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
Directed by Jon M. Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “In the Heights”), “Wicked” is the first chapter of a two-part immersive cultural celebration, with Part Two slated for release on November 26, 2025.
Produced by Marc Platt and David Stone, with David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz, and Jared LeBoff as executive producers, “Wicked” promises to bring the beloved musical to life on the silver screen, adapting Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel. As anticipation builds, “Wicked” is poised to cast its spell on audiences anew, seamlessly blending its Broadway magic with the cinematic experience.
