A US House of Representatives committee will meet with senior executives from technology and media companies to discuss issues related to China. The Special Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party will meet with executives from Apple and Disney, among others, to share their concerns and views on trade relations with China.
The meeting will also address the pressure on companies to diversify their supply chains away from over-reliance on China and to ensure that forced labor is not used in their operations in the country.
The committee is expected to address the growing economic and political tensions between the US and China, which have been steadily increasing in recent years. In addition, the meeting also comes amid national security concerns related to Chinese technology companies, such as Huawei, and human rights policy in Xinjiang, where forced labor is reportedly used in cotton production.
The Committee has largely focused on China-related problems, including issues such as technology, defense, diplomacy, and trade. The meeting with business executives also comes at a time when the Biden administration is expected to take a tougher stance on China, including the possibility of imposing tougher sanctions and tariffs.
