Former US President Donald Trump engaged in a telephone conversation with Argentina’s president-elect, the ultraliberal Javier Milei, confirming that he would travel to Buenos Aires to meet with him, as reported by Milei on X (formerly Twitter).
During the midnight call on Wednesday, Trump congratulated Milei on his election as president with 55% of the votes. “Your victory by such a margin is having a global impact,” Trump told Milei, as confirmed by the Argentine leader.
Milei’s press office issued a statement confirming the call and its contents, specifying that “Trump anticipated that he would travel to Buenos Aires to meet with him.”
This marks the first direct contact between Milei and Trump after the Argentine’s victory in the presidential election.
Prior to the call, the former president had sent a congratulatory video to Milei after his victory, featuring a rendition of Trump’s famous slogan, “Make America Great Again,” with the message, “Make Argentina great again.”
Simultaneously, local media reported that Milei would make a brief trip to New York on Friday for personal reasons, returning the next day to Buenos Aires. The purpose, according to the press, is to visit the grave of a rabbi.
However, Diana Mondino, identified by Milei as his future foreign minister, stated she “is unaware” of any information regarding this trip.
