The “Mission Impossible” movie saga began in 1995 as a remake of the hit television series starring Tom Cruise. Since then, six films have been released, with two more on the way. Over the past 25 years, the franchise has grossed more than $3.5 billion at the box office with its six installments, making it one of the highest-grossing action franchises in history.
The latest installment, “Mission Impossible: Fallout,” has been the most successful to date, grossing $800 million worldwide and receiving critical acclaim as one of the best action movies of recent years. This shows that the saga is in full swing, and two new installments full of strong emotions await us.
At CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April 2022, Tom Cruise announced the official title of the upcoming film starring spy Ethan Hunt: “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part I” for the international market and “Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment: Part One” in Spain.
“Mission Impossible 7” was originally scheduled to be released in July 2021, but due to the coronavirus crisis, filming was delayed, and it resumed in September in the UK without the need for quarantine. This also led to the delay of the film’s release from July to November, specifically to November 19, 2021. However, along with the delay of another major Tom Cruise production, “Top Gun: Maverick,” the release date of “Mission Impossible 7” was postponed again. It is now scheduled for July 14, 2023, as confirmed by Hayley Atwell, who assured us that we will see the film next summer under the title “Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment, Part One.”
This installment will be the first of the two parts that will make up “Mission Impossible 8”, which was originally scheduled for August 2022 but was also delayed and will now be released on June 28, 2024. The director of both installments, Christopher McQuarrie, explained that he decided to make two films almost back-to-back to give each character their own emotional arc, much like Ethan Hunt did, and to give the film more feeling.
Although these two sequels were initially believed to be the end of the saga, McQuarrie has hinted at the possibility of an additional sequel, making it clear that plans can always change and you never know where the story will lead until you get there.
The synopsis for “Mission Impossible 7” is still being kept under wraps, but a new villain is expected to come from the Syndicate, a fearsome terrorist organization that will put the IMF and Ethan Hunt in trouble.
