Japanese giants Sony and Honda are teaming up to bring a revolutionary concept electric vehicle (EV), named Afeela, into reality. Unveiled in 2020, the Afeela is set to hit the streets in 2026. At CES 2024, Sony showcased the EV by driving it onto the stage using a PlayStation controller, adding a touch of spectacle reminiscent of Elon Musk’s Cybertruck reveal.
While the PlayStation controller demonstration was likely a tech demo, it created buzz and curiosity around the Afeela. Sony and Honda also shared exciting details about the vehicle’s interior features. The Afeela’s dashboard will be powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.3, offering a visually stunning experience. The dashboard will boast a massive ultrawide display, presenting information like maps, music controls, and more. Additionally, it will tap into Sony’s extensive catalog of media content.
Although previous reports hinted at PS5 support in the Afeela, no official confirmation was provided. However, Sony suggested a collaboration with Polyphony Digital, the developer of the Gran Turismo series. While details are scarce, the partnership aims to blend virtual and real-world experiences, potentially allowing users to play Gran Turismo titles directly from the Afeela’s steering wheel or featuring the Afeela in future game releases.
Despite the exciting features, Sony and Honda have yet to disclose pricing and an official release date for the Afeela. As the automotive industry witnesses a surge in EV innovation, the Afeela’s combination of cutting-edge technology and gaming integration adds a unique touch to the electric vehicle landscape.
