Spanish skydiver Eric Finat became a viral phenomenon when he captured on video one of his parachute jumps, during which he went through an impressive tunnel of clouds during his free fall. His feat stunned the online community and millions of netizens.
Eric Finat shared the video of him jumping on July 27, but it was in the last few days that it really spread on social media, creating quite a stir. In less than two weeks, he has racked up more than 600,000 likes and close to 10 million views on his Instagram account.
The skydiver described the experience as “a good visual explanation of a car wash,” accompanying his comment with the statement that background music was not required since during the fall he could be heard screaming excitedly.
The video shows how Finat is launched from a small plane, with the blue sky as a backdrop. However, as the seconds tick by, the skydiver plunges deeper into a cloud bank, producing an amazing visual effect. The footage shows how the environment turns white and hazy as Finat extends his arms before seeing the ground again.
The video generated excited comments among viewers. One of them claimed that Finat had shared an experience that everyone had dreamed of. Another user commented that the video was the best of the year.
Although the video was impressive, a question was raised about whether the skydiver got drenched going through the cloud and what the experience felt like. A skydiving instructor named Ryan Katchmar previously noted that skydivers generally deliberately avoid going through clouds as they lose visibility. Also, he mentioned that going through white clouds does not create any particular sensation, but darker clouds could cause you to get drenched.
