The Mayor’s Office of Bogota reported that police officers and members of the Security Secretariat were deployed in the Bosa Piamonte sector to contain the situation that broke out after the Colombian League final between Millonarios and Atletico Nacional. After Millonarios was crowned champion in a penalty shootout (3-2), clashes broke out between supporters of both teams on Saturday night in Bogota, where the final match took place.
According to local media, the disturbances occurred in the area of Bosa Piamonte, located in the south of the capital. In videos posted on social networks, people can be seen throwing stones at other fans. In view of this situation, police officers and members of the Security Secretariat were deployed to control the situation, as reported by the Mayor’s Office of Bogota.
Violent incidents were also reported between Millonarios fans and fans of the Paisa team in the locality of Engativá, in the northwest of the city, according to the testimonies of the inhabitants of the area.
Previously, a group of fans of the “albiazul” team broke down security fences to enter the SimĂłn BolĂvar park, where screens had been installed to watch the match. According to the authorities, this incident left at least three people injured.
The first match of the final, which was played on Wednesday at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in MedellĂn, ended in a goalless draw. With Saturday’s victory, the team led by Alberto Gamero achieved its sixteenth star, remaining one step away from matching the ‘verdolaga’ team. The violent situation after the match has generated concern and highlighted the need for additional security measures to prevent and control clashes between fans.
