At the Monaco Grand Prix, the sixth race of the Formula 1 season, the Red Bull team is once again emerging as the main contender. Spain’s double world champion, Fernando Alonso, is pinning high hopes on this stage as he seeks his first win with Aston Martin and to get closer to his win counter, which has not been updated since 2013 with a total of 32 victories.
Although Alonso acknowledges that his car may not be the fastest on the grid, he hopes to demonstrate his speed and driving skills on the narrow streets of the Principality. However, he is aware that it will be difficult to catch the powerful Red Bulls, who have dominated the first five races. Dutchman Max Verstappen, winner of the last two championships, has been on the podium on three occasions, while his Mexican teammate Sergio Perez has taken victory in the other two.
The latest display of Red Bull’s dominance was in Miami, where Verstappen came from ninth to take the win, followed by Perez. In the championship, Verstappen leads with 119 points, followed by Perez with 105, who was the winner in Monaco last year. Alonso is in third place, 44 points behind the leader.
The Monaco Grand Prix will be an opportunity for several teams, such as Mercedes and Ferrari, to test new improvements. Mercedes currently sits in third place behind Red Bull and Aston Martin. Toto Wolff, Mercedes boss, does not have excessive expectations and does not see the upgrades as a miracle solution. Ferrari, meanwhile, is hoping to move closer to the front of the grid and is hoping that its Monegasque driver, Charles Leclerc, can take his first win at his home circuit. Although Leclerc has been unlucky in the past in Monaco, Ferrari is hoping for a flawless weekend and to take advantage of any mistakes by Red Bull to bring excitement to the championship.
In short, Red Bull will be the team to beat in Monaco, while Alonso is looking for his first win with Aston Martin. Mercedes and Ferrari hope to improve their performance and surprise in the race to get closer to the leaders.
