In an interview to be broadcast by Radio Switzerland, Pope Francis stated that he would only resign in the event that fatigue prevented him from seeing things clearly or because of a physical problem. In a previous interview with ABC, the Pope mentioned that he had written a letter of resignation in case of a serious health problem, following the example of other popes in the past. Pope Francis also spoke about his physical condition, acknowledging that as he ages he has less physical stamina and that the injury to his knee was a physical humiliation. Regarding the world situation, the Pope believes that we are in World War III and that the battlefield is Ukraine.
He also mentioned that if he could talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin, he would speak to him clearly and that he was willing to negotiate with him. Pope Francis also stressed the importance of dialogue between young politicians in Europe, regardless of their ideological differences. As for his vision of the afterlife, the Pope confessed that he cannot imagine what it will be like and only asks Our Lady to be by his side. Overall, Pope Francis appears to be committed to his role as leader of the Church and would only consider stepping down if his health or clarity of thought were compromised.
