The National Police has issued a warning through its social networks about a new weapon banned in Spain. It is a lighter that emits electric shocks and has been displayed on the Instagram and TikTok profiles of the Police and Civil Guard along with other illegal weapons. The use of electric shock devices, such as the lighter in question, is prohibited in Spain. Article 36.10 of the Citizen Security Law states that the possession, display, and use of prohibited weapons, such as electric weapons, are criminalized. The fine for carrying a prohibited weapon ranges from €601 to €30,000, depending on the seriousness of the weapon.
The National Police have received several responses from users claiming that the lighter shown is a plasma lighter, which works by means of a high-intensity electric arc. However, the police have clarified that this lighter emits discharges and is classified as a prohibited weapon, despite the fact that it looks like a normal lighter.
It is important to note that carrying illegal weapons can have serious consequences and can be dangerous for both the bearer and those around them. In addition, electric weapons can be lethal in some cases. The Police and Guardia Civil have produced these publications to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying prohibited weapons and to remind people that their use is criminalized in Spain.
