Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2024 women’s collection, presented in Paris this Monday, left the public in a standing ovation, while outside the show, several environmental and animal activists protested against the brand. Jeremstar, a social media influencer dressed as a “skinned snake” to protest against the use of exotic skins, was briefly detained before being released following an identity check.
Within the event, in a new headquarters that the brand will inaugurate on the Champs-Elysées, actresses Cate Blanchett and Zendaya, along with the iconic Anna Wintour, gave a standing ovation to artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière. The collection, young, light, and cheerful, presented a bohemian style with stripes, checks, and elaborate but informal shapes. Miniskirts and loose-fitting jackets were paired with white tights and artfully heeled shoes, displaying a bold fusion of elegance and sass.
The set, created by the Spanish group of decorators, Penique, covered the entire space with completely recyclable orange polyethylene. However, outside the venue, activists from French environmental organizations protested by spraying paint on the building of the LVMH group, to which Louis Vuitton belongs, as a way of denouncing practices such as “tax optimization.” This event reflected the intersection of fashion, social protest, and environmental awareness in the contemporary world of haute couture.
