AFP journalist Arman Soldin, killed in a rocket attack in eastern Ukraine, filmed footage of the war in the country, including tender and humane scenes such as the rescue of a wounded hedgehog by him and his team. The rescue was posted on Twitter a few days before his death and went viral, showing the little spiky-coated mammal sniffing after being nursed back to health by the AFP team, who cared for him by feeding him with small medical instruments to make a bottle and creating a kind of den out of an ammunition box.
Soldin, who has covered the war in Ukraine since its beginning in 2022, knew that this small story does not change the situation in the country and that the war continues to cause devastation. Therefore, in his Twitter posts, he urged people not to forget the dire situation in Ukraine and to help the millions of displaced people through donations to non-governmental organizations.
Despite the harsh circumstances, Soldin maintained his good humor and humanity while working as a video coordinator in Ukraine.
