The seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, has achieved an impressive “pole position” at the Hungary Grand Prix, ending a long period of drought since his last “pole” in December 2021. With an outstanding performance, Hamilton took the 104th “pole” of his career for just three thousandths of a second. The first position was from the Monaco Grand Prix in May.
The British driver was excited by the result and acknowledged that he did not expect to fight for pole position, but he did his best to reach it. On the other hand, Verstappen regretted not getting first place, noting that they had struggled all weekend to find a good balance in the car.
Following qualifying, Hamilton set a record nine pole positions at the Hungaroring circuit, where he also holds the winning record with eight wins. Now, he has a chance to rediscover victory in the race, something he hasn’t achieved since late 2021.
Behind the two champions, McLaren’s Lando Norris set the third fastest time, while Alfa Romeo’s Chinese Zhou Guanyu surprised with a fifth-place finish. Fernando Alonso, who achieved his first victory at this circuit in 2003, will start from eighth position with Aston Martin.
Saturday’s classification presented a novelty in the regulations, where the teams had to use different types of tires in each session. This new system generated surprises, including the performance of George Russell, who will start from the 18th position in his Mercedes.
With a strong performance in qualifying, the anticipation and excitement for the Hungarian Grand Prix are at an all-time high, with fans looking forward to the exciting race.
