During a live broadcast on MSNBC, Stacey Plaskett, the Virgin Islands’ Democratic delegate to the US House of Representatives, slipped up when she said that former President Donald Trump “should be shot” while discussing the handling of classified documents. Although she quickly attempted to correct herself and replace “shot” with “stop,” the comment generated criticism and calls for impeachment against the politician.
Video of the incident quickly spread on social media, with some Twitter users taking the comment literally and demanding her impeachment. It would have highlighted the perceived hypocrisy if a Republican had made a similar comment about a Democrat. Plaskett, known for her strong opposition to Trump, was charged with handling the impeachment trial against him for his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol, although the former president was acquitted in February 2021.
Recently, Trump faced charges in a Miami federal court for allegedly storing classified material at his Mar-a-Lago residence and refusing to turn it over to the FBI or the Justice Department. This is the second time this year that the former president has faced criminal charges. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the allegations against him are politically motivated.
Despite the allegations, Trump continues to press forward with his campaign for the 2024 presidential election.
