Chanel presented a runway spectacle on Tuesday, depicting a “velvety winter by the sea” with oversized beach hats, comfortable dresses, and loungewear. The collection, themed around a weekend getaway, paid homage to Deauville, a legendary location where Gabrielle Chanel found inspiration.
Deauville, a chic resort in northwestern France, served as the backdrop for the fashion house’s first boutique in 1912, where Gabrielle Chanel sold beach hats. This accessory took center stage in the fall-winter 2024/2025 collection, with models donning extra-wide-brimmed hats in pristine white or dusty pink, adorned with elegant silver jewelry.
The color palette drew inspiration from vivid and pastel tones, ranging from pink, mauve, orange, and pale blue to the changing hues of the Deauville sky. The collection transitioned from romantic ensembles and ruffled muslin dresses, evoking the movement of waves or wind, to ivory lingerie-style dresses.
Supermodel Gigi Hadid showcased a discreet black skirt and sweater ensemble, accentuated by a Chanel bow in her hair and a cascade of 1920s-style gold necklaces. The collection also featured trench coats with broad shoulders, long fitted coats over tweed suits, and futuristic looks with wide-legged pants, jumpsuits, and back-fastened ensembles.
The runway show, a cinematic experience, saw celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Vanessa Paradis, and singer Rachel Zegler in the front row. The winter escapade concluded with a stylish homage to Deauville’s timeless allure, capturing the essence of Chanel’s iconic legacy.
