The happiest day of her life turned to tragedy for Samantha Miller when a drunk driver hit her as she was leaving her wedding in a golf cart at Folly Beach with her new husband, Aric Hutchinson. The driver, Jamie Lee Kamoroski, 25, was driving over 65 mph (about 105 km/h) under the influence of alcohol when she rammed the vehicle carrying the newlyweds, causing Samantha’s instant death and leaving Aric critically injured. Aric suffers a severe brain injury and is in critical condition.
Aric’s mother opened a solidarity appeal on GoFundMe to cover medical expenses for her son, who has lost the “love of his life.” Jamie Lee Kamoroski now faces a 25-year prison sentence for reckless homicide and three more DUI charges. Although it was initially thought that the company and the trolley driver may have contributed to the accident by driving at night and being out of the driver’s field of vision, both were eventually exonerated of any liability.
Samantha Miller’s tragic death is a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and the terrible results it can have. At a time when she should be enjoying her new life as a wife, Samantha was the victim of someone else’s recklessness and negligence. Hopefully, this incident will inspire others to be more responsible and careful behind the wheel.
