Recently released body camera footage from November 2023 has left viewers astounded, depicting one of the strangest and most disturbing incidents witnessed by Deputy Jesse Hernandez. The footage reveals an encounter where Hernandez arrested and cuffed a man who had stolen his girlfriend’s car, placing him in the back of his patrol car.
As Hernandez returned to read the suspect his rights, an inexplicable turn of events unfolded. Despite no apparent signs of danger, Hernandez began shouting “shots fired” multiple times, claiming he had been hit. Subsequently, he fired several rounds into the back of the patrol car. In response, his partner also discharged their weapon towards the vehicle.
Taking cover behind another car, Hernandez, although admitting to feeling strange, confirmed he was physically unharmed. Later investigations suggested that the sound triggering the incident was likely an acorn striking the patrol vehicle’s roof.
Remarkably, the suspect in the backseat emerged unscathed from the gunfire. In the aftermath, Hernandez resigned from the police force a couple of weeks later. The incident underscores the challenges and complexities faced by law enforcement officers, highlighting the need for thorough training and awareness in handling high-pressure situations.
