Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi stood out as the fastest in the first free practice sessions of the German MotoGP Grand Prix at the Sachsenring circuit. During the day, there was a collision between Johann Zarco and Marc Marquez at the end of testing.
Bezzecchi, of the Ducati-VR46 team, topped the timesheets, followed by Spaniards Jorge Martín (Ducati-Pramac) and Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia). World champion Francesco Bagnaia was fourth. In contrast, Márquez, considered the king of the Sachsenring, placed 14th, which means he will have to go through the repechage to have a chance in the race.
The ten best combined times from the practice sessions go directly into Q2, which determines the top grid positions for the sprint and the Grand Prix. The remaining riders, like Márquez, will take part in a practice session (Q1), where the two fastest will advance to Q2.
The second practice session proved more eventful due to a crash by Takaaki Nakagami. However, the most notable incident was the collision between Marquez and Zarco. Marquez fell off his bike and collided with Zarco, who was coming out of the acceleration zone. Both riders claimed to be in good condition and not at risk of missing the race.
As for the combined time classification, Bezzecchi was in first place, closely followed by Martin and Espargaró. Bagnaia was fourth. Márquez, meanwhile, was in 14th place.
The MotoGP German Grand Prix promises to be exciting, with Bezzecchi leading the timesheets and Marquez facing the challenge of advancing from the playoff. Fans are looking forward to Saturday’s sprint and Sunday’s race to see who will take the win at the Sachsenring.
