French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reported that more than a hundred anti-Semitic acts, mostly graffiti and hate messages, have been recorded since the attack perpetrated by Hamas against Israel last Saturday.
Darmanin announced that 24 people have been arrested for these acts, including three foreigners who were legally residing in France and whose residence permits will be withdrawn in order to expel them. The acts include swastikas, messages inciting violence against Jews, and more serious acts such as people being detained with knives near schools and synagogues, as well as the use of a camera drone inside a Jewish place of worship.
Despite these acts of hate, Darmanin assured that there is no specific Islamist terrorist threat affecting Jewish citizens in France at this time. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is seeking to preserve national unity and is meeting with political party leaders to address the situation.
Macron has expressed his support for Israel, calling the country an ally of France. French residents in Israel are trying to return to France, but the situation is complicated due to the lack of flights and the escalation of violence in the region.
