Mamadou Niang and Massata Samb, two MPs from the opposition, were spotted slapping and kicking another politician named Amy Ndiaye.
Both of the Senegalese lawmakers were found guilty of attacking and physically assaulting a female colleague while a session was in progress in the nation’s parliament a month ago, and they were sentenced to serve a total of six months in prison for their actions. Members of the opposition, Mamadou Niang and Massata Samb, can be seen slapping and kicking Amy Ndiaye, a member of the legislative body, in recordings widely circulated on social media.
Even though there was video footage available of the assault, the two members of parliament (MPs) denied that they were involved in the assault. Their lawyers argued that due to the fact that they are politicians, they should be considered immune to prosecution. However, the court did not agree with this, and they both received a term of imprisonment for a period of six months.
The two parliamentarians were given sentences of only six months each, despite the fact that Amy Ndiaye’s legal team had requested a penalty of two years for each of them. The legislators have also been sentenced to pay a fine of 100,000 CFA francs, which is equivalent to $160, and they have been penalized a total of five million CFA francs, which is equivalent to nearly $8,100 in damages.
Amy Ndiaye’s attorneys have stated that their client was pregnant at the time of the assault and that two lawmakers kicked her belly after the assault, which caused her to pass out. She was then taken to the hospital for treatment out of fear that she would lose the baby, and her attorneys have stated that Amy Ndiaye’s attorneys have stated that Amy Ndiaye’s attorneys have stated
Amy Ndiaye has been released from the hospital but “remains in an exceedingly tough situation,” according to the information provided by the attorneys.
