Trump has stated on multiple occasions that the interaction with Carroll in the middle of the 1990s at an upmarket department store in Manhattan never took place.
According to excerpts of his videotaped testimony that were unsealed by a court on Friday, former President Donald Trump hurled insults and threatened to sue the columnist who accused him of raping her in a department store in the 1990s while he was being questioned for a lawsuit. The columnist had accused Trump of raping her in the store.
In a lawsuit that was initiated by columnist E. Jean Carroll in October, the defendant gave a deposition that lasted for five and a half hours. The lawyers for the defendant asked a federal judge to keep the deposition under seal. However, the judge denied their request.
“She accused me of doing something to her that I can assure you I did not do. There was nothing present at all. According to the transcript, he stated, “I know nothing about this nut job.” [Citation needed]
The excerpts reveal a contentious battle between Trump and Roberta Kaplan, a lawyer for Carroll. Kaplan questioned Trump as he called the former longtime Elle magazine columnist the perpetrator of “a complete scam” in which she described the rape as she “was promoting a really crummy book.” The excerpts also reveal that Trump called the former Elle magazine columnist the perpetrator of “a complete scam.”
“After all of this is through, I will file a lawsuit against her, and that is something I am really looking forward to doing. In response, Kaplan was told, “And I’ll sue you too.”
The revelation of passages from the deposition occurred on the same day that a judge who was unrelated to the lawyer, Lewis A. Kaplan, declined a request by Trump’s attorneys to throw out two lawsuits filed by Carroll alleging rape and defamation. Carroll’s claims were filed against Trump. A court date in April is scheduled.
Trump has stated on multiple occasions that the interaction with Carroll in the middle of the 1990s at an upmarket department store in Manhattan never took place.
During his testimony, Trump leveled multiple assaults against Carroll’s portrayal of him in the role of a rapist.
When responding to claims immediately after the publication of Carroll’s book in 2019, the president stated that he was aware that it was not “politically proper” for him to say “she’s not my type.” The writer claimed that Trump assaulted her in a changing room after the two of them had a chance encounter in the store and she volunteered to assist him in selecting lingerie for a friend.
“But I’ll say it anyway,” he said. “A woman who I do not know is accusing me of raping her, and I have no idea who she is. It came completely unexpectedly. She has accused me of raping her, which is the worst crime that can be committed and the worst accusation that can be made.
In a conversation with her lawyer, he continued by saying, “And you know it’s not true too. You, too, are a member of the political establishment. You’re a shame. However, she is accusing both you and me of rape, despite the fact that it did not take place.
During the course of the deposition, Trump referred to Carroll as “ill, mentally sick” at one point. He misrepresented Carroll’s comments in an interview she had given to CNN, asserting incorrectly that she had stated that she took pleasure in being sexually attacked. In fact, she gave the impression that she cherished it. Okay? “Up until the commercial break, she was really enjoying it,” Trump added. In point of fact, I believe that she referred to it as being sexy, didn’t she? She claimed that being raped was a really sensual experience. Wasn’t she the one who said that?
After that, Kaplan, Carroll’s attorney, attempted to coerce Trump into admitting that he had sexually assaulted her client.
“So, sir, I just want to confirm that what E. Jean Carroll said in her testimony, which is that she relished being sexually abused by you, is indeed your testimony?”
Trump answered: “Well, based on her interview with Anderson Cooper, I believe that’s what happened place. And that is something that can be defined…. I believe that she implied that rape, which is obviously not a sexual act, was appealing.
According to what Carroll has stated in her writing as well as in the interview that she had with Cooper, she does not like to use the word “rape” because she believes that some other people “think rape is sexy.” She stated that she felt more comfortable using the term “battle.”
During another portion of the deposition, Kaplan questioned Donald Trump about whether or not he had ever inappropriately touched a lady on her breast, buttocks, or any other area of her body that could be considered sexual.
He reacted by saying, “Well, I will tell you no, but you may have some people like your customer that lie.”
In a ruling made earlier on Friday, Judge Kaplan of Manhattan upheld the complaints filed by Carroll, which alleged rape and defamation and sought unspecified damages. The judge stated that the lawsuits may proceed to trial because Trump’s challenges had any basis in reality.
“The fact that Mr. Trump denies Ms. Carroll’s allegations does not enter into the analysis at this point of the case,” the jurist stated. “This level of the case does not allow for such consideration.” “We will have to wait for additional processes in order to learn what, if anything, actually took place,” in the event that the case is allowed to continue.
Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, issued the following statement in response to the court’s decision: “While we are disappointed with the Court’s decision, we intend to promptly appeal the order and continue to advocate for our client’s constitutionally protected rights.” [Citation needed]
Following the disclosure of the deposition, she did not immediately react to a request for a comment that was sent to her. Roberta Kaplan did not want to comment, so she declined.
The judge stated in his decision that the Adult Survivor’s Act was comparable to the Child Victims Act, which is another piece of legislation from the state of New York. The Child Victims Act was a piece of legislation that momentarily allowed victims of sexual assaults when they were children to sue their abusers years later.
After Trump made fun of Carroll’s allegations that he had sexually assaulted her, Carroll initially filed a lawsuit against Trump for defamation. Following the passage of the Adult Survivor’s Act in November, Carroll filed a lawsuit against Trump alleging that he had raped her.
