In a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister, reiterated her full support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. Meloni has offered all possible help to create the necessary conditions for negotiation and assured that Italy will not hesitate to provide military, financial, and civilian support to Ukraine. He also stressed that those who support Ukraine militarily are working for peace.
During the press conference, the Ukrainian president, Volodymir Zelensky, launched an attack on Silvio Berlusconi, Meloni’s government partner, and was very critical of the Ukrainian president. Zelensky has pointed out that Berlusconi’s attitude is deeply felt in Ukraine and has stressed that nobody has bombed his house with missiles or killed his relatives, something that has happened in Ukraine thanks to Russia. Meloni responded that the Italian center-right votes conservatively in Parliament and adheres to the program.
The main topic of the meeting was the military support provided by Italy and its allies, and Meloni promised to send the Samp-T missile defense system, produced together with the French. The Prime Minister stressed that they will focus on anti-aircraft defense systems, such as Samp-T, Spada, and Skyguard, and specified that there are no plans to send fighter planes at the moment.
Meloni was moved to tears when visiting the cities of Irpin and Bucha, two cities that symbolize the conflict and Russian aggression and have been destroyed by Putin’s bombs. In conclusion, Meloni assured Italy’s full support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and offered all kinds of help to create the necessary conditions for negotiation and the maintenance of peace.
