In the Black Sea, military operations between Ukraine and Russia have escalated, and recently, video obtained by AFP shows a naval drone approaching a Russian warship before transmission cut off, suggesting a possible successful attack. A total of six bodies have been found after the landslide in the Racha region of Georgia, where 35 people are still missing.
The attack with the naval drone occurred near a hotel in Shovi, a resort in the Racha Mountains, and hit a Russian Landing ship named “Olenegorski Gorniak” in Novorossiysk. Russia reported that the Ukrainian armed forces, with the help of two unmanned ships, attempted to attack the Novorossiysk naval base but were detected and destroyed. Attacks on the Russian fleet in the Black Sea have increased since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, the Russian military reported that it has shot down 13 drones that attacked the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, without causing any casualties or damage. Ukraine, which has launched a counter-offensive to retake occupied territories, has made modest progress and is intent on retaking Crimea.
On the other hand, the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that no mines or explosives were found at the site of the Russian-controlled Zaporizhia nuclear plant in Ukraine.
The situation in the region remains tense and complex, with both sides facing challenges in the conflict. Meanwhile, rescue efforts in Georgia continue after the Racha landslide, and the families of the victims in Ukraine are demanding justice and accountability for the attacks.
