Like the other 18 co-defendants in the attempt to alter the result of the 2020 elections in a crucial state in the southeast of the country, the former president has until noon on Friday to undergo a process of transfer. However, it is anticipated that he will avoid pretrial detention through an agreement that involves posting $200,000 in bail. So far, it has not been specified whether he will be granted special privileges due to his status as a former president.
The transfer procedure, which has already been completed by two of the 19 accused, includes taking fingerprints and frontal and profile photographs of the accused, as well as collecting data such as height, weight, and physical characteristics. Although Donald Trump has avoided this process on previous occasions, the Fulton County sheriff stressed the importance of treating all defendants fairly.
Trump expressed his outrage at having to report to a “violent prison” in a statement released by his campaign. In July, the Justice Department announced an investigation into detention conditions at the Fulton jail due to allegations of insecurity, violence, excessive use of force, and a lack of medical care.
The prison, which houses more than 2,500 inmates, exceeding more than double its original capacity, has faced criticism for its condition and the conditions of the detainees. Fulton County recently agreed to pay $4 million to the family of an inmate who died under deplorable conditions. Trump’s prison stay is expected to be brief and under heavy security, with the area cordoned off during his presence.
