The first debate in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is scheduled to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, next Wednesday. In his message, Trump highlighted a recent set of polls that have him leading by a wide margin over other Republican contenders, including a CBS News poll released Sunday.
The poll reveals that a staggering 62% of those polled would vote for Trump, despite the four charges he has faced this year, including that he tried to undermine US democracy by planning to nullify the election in 2020 and stay in power after his loss to Joe Biden.
In the study, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis emerges as Trump’s closest competitor, garnering 16% support. Meanwhile, the other contenders remain in single digits.
Trump forcefully described Gov. DeSantis’s situation as a nosedive, comparing him to a “sick bird.” In addition, he emphasized that the American public recognizes his identity and remembers his presidential successes, including achievements in areas such as energy, border security, the military, and the economy. With these statements, the former president underscores his previous leadership and significant achievements as a platform for his likely future participation in presidential elections.
