During a rally in New Hampshire, former President Trump expressed his bewilderment at the actions of his political opponents, particularly President Biden, in impeaching him in the middle of an election campaign he said he was winning widely. Trump, 77, faces three criminal charges: attempting to influence the results of the 2020 presidential election; making covert payments to a porn actress; and negligently handling confidential documents while leaving the White House.
Despite his legal status, Trump leads in two of the 14 polls conducted since June, with Biden winning eight and tying four. Although he laments the impact of the accusations on his political participation, Trump says that these indictments paradoxically improve his prospects for electoral success. He claims that each new accusation reinforces his belief that the next election will be decided in his favor.
The former president anticipates that he could face a fourth indictment next week, possibly related to the investigation in Georgia into alleged attempts to rig election results in that state. During his speech, Trump also criticized Ron DeSantis, his former supporter and currently the second-highest-ranked candidate in the polls for the Republican primary. He believes DeSantis betrayed him by showing up too early and lacking charisma.
Despite the sweltering heat, Trump took advantage of the setting to censure Biden’s policy on various counts. He has vowed to end the war in Ukraine, implement tariffs on foreign products, deport undocumented migrants, and question medical treatment for transgender people. Although his speeches often include criticism of the current administration, Trump reaffirmed his intention to remain active in politics and seek an eventual return to the White House.
