Last Sunday, several drone strikes were reported near and around Moscow, with one drone shot down on the outskirts of the city, while two others were “suppressed by electronic warfare” and crashed in an office complex. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Moscow has experienced a series of drone strikes this year, including some targeting the Kremlin and Russian cities near the Ukrainian border, which have been blamed on Kyiv by Russian authorities. Russia’s Defense Ministry called Sunday’s attack an “attempted terrorist attack” carried out by Kyiv regime unmanned aerial vehicles.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that the attacks caused slight damage to the facades of two office towers in the Moscow-City shopping complex, causing no casualties or injuries.
The drone strikes on Moscow coincide with the start of a counter-offensive by Ukraine to retake territory captured by Russia since February 2022. The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the United States and its NATO allies of supporting the Kyiv regime, which, according to them, has facilitated these attacks.
In addition to the attacks in Moscow, Russia reported that it intercepted two Ukrainian missiles over the southern Rostov region bordering Ukraine, resulting in at least 16 people being injured by debris that fell in the city of Taganrog. Also reported were a Russian missile attack on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, which killed two people, and another attack on the Ukrainian city of Soumy, in which one person was killed and five wounded.
Drone and missile strikes have heightened tension in the region and raised concerns about the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
