Technology has had a major impact on the world of work, and artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming one of the most developed and settled tools. A study conducted by university professors from New York, Princeton, and Pennsylvania, titled “How will language models like ChatGPT affect occupations and industries?” analyzed the impact AI would have on different professions and industries.
The researchers used a methodology that allowed them to discover which professions underwent the most changes with the advent of AI. To do this, they analyzed the impact of AI on more than 800 professions performed by humans, obtaining a score of occupational exposure to AI. The higher the number, the greater the risk of AI automation for that profession.
Among the professions most at risk are telemarketers and university professors of English literature, foreign languages and literature, history, and geography. In addition, other professionals such as sociologists, political scientists, arbitrators, mediators, and conciliators, judges and magistrates, and clinical psychologists will also be affected.
Also mentioned are different types of industries that could be affected by AI, such as Legal Services, Financial Investments, Insurance, Credit Intermediation, Artists’ Agents and Managers, Accounting and Business Support Services, Software Publishers, Lessors of Non-Financial Intangible Assets, Grantmaking and Granting, Junior Colleges, Management Consulting Services, and Computer Systems Design.
In Spain, 10% of companies already use AI, and by 2025, the impact of AI is expected to be around €16.5 billion. The communities of Madrid, Cantabria, Castilla y León, and the Basque Country are the most advanced in terms of AI implementation. The Ministry of Economic Affairs stresses that the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy aims to provide a reference framework for the development of an inclusive, sustainable, and citizen-centered AI, and assures that it will improve the preparation of the Spanish productive fabric to boost its competitiveness at the European and international level.
