In Sudan, the power struggle between military and paramilitary forces has led to a third week of fighting that has left at least 528 dead and 4,599 injured, according to the Ministry of Health. The UN has warned that the country is collapsing and has urged both sides to stop the violence.
Despite a ceasefire accepted by both sides, the fighting has continued, with mutual accusations of not respecting it. The clashes have led to the flight of tens of thousands of Sudanese, foreigners, and refugees to neighboring countries and third countries that organize evacuation missions. Most hospitals in the combat zones are out of service, exacerbating the humanitarian situation for civilians trapped in the crossfire without access to electricity, water, or food.
Meanwhile, the two rival generals are attacking each other through the media. The former prime minister of Sudan has warned that a civil war in the country would be a nightmare for the world. The World Food Program has warned that violence could worsen the humanitarian situation for millions of people in a country where a third of the population already required assistance to avoid famine before the power struggle began. The UK has announced the evacuation of nearly 1,900 people from Sudan, and the US has organized convoys to evacuate citizens from third countries.
