Tesla has unveiled a video showcasing the capabilities of its Tesla Bot, demonstrating its potential for performing tasks resembling those of a human. The video was presented by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at the company’s shareholder meeting event.
The footage highlights several upgrades made to the Tesla Bot project. These advancements include improved motor torque control, artificial intelligence (AI) training based on human movements, and the ability to manipulate objects. Most notably, the humanoid robots can now walk steadily in a straight line without requiring assistance from Tesla staff.
One demonstration in the video shows the Tesla Bot retrieving items from one container and transferring them to another, illustrating how the AI can be trained using human demonstrations. This showcases a potential use case for robots in performing human-like tasks.
The Tesla Bot was initially revealed at Tesla AI Day in October 2022. At that time, the robot had limited walking capabilities and required assistance from staff to remain upright. The new video demonstrates significant progress in the development of the robot.
The release of the video garnered various reactions from internet users. Some applauded Tesla for achieving this milestone, while others made playful threats of engaging with the robot if they were to encounter it on the streets.
This demonstration comes shortly after Elon Musk announced his decision to step down as CEO of Twitter and take on the role of executive chairman and chief technology officer. Linda Yaccarino will assume the position of CEO, and Musk expressed his excitement to collaborate with her in transforming the platform into what he referred to as “X, the everything app.”
