Selena Gomez is an artist who has grown up under the constant attention of millions of viewers since her teenage years. Due to her upbringing in the Disney factory, she had to face repeated comments about her physique, private life, acting, and music. However, in recent years, the actress has been taking steps to remind her fans and those who think they are free to have an opinion that criticizing others’ bodies is not okay. Recently, she did so in a livestream on her TikTok account, where she amasses 45 million followers.
The last time Selena had to face comments about her weight was after attending the Golden Globes gala in January 2022. Despite being nominated for Best Television Actress in a Musical Series for her role in the Disney+ series “Just Murders in the Building,” she did not receive the award. However, she did have to watch as thousands of criticisms poured in via social networks because of her physique.
Hours after the gala, Gomez made a direct post on her Instagram account, which has 378 million followers, to take the heat off the matter. With a smile, the actress said, “I’m a little fat right now because I had fun during the vacations.”
A month after what happened, Selena decided to get back in front of the camera to tell her followers what she was going through. In 2015, the actress was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, which has guided the steps she has taken in her career, from the projects she has chosen to the ones she has been forced, on more than one occasion, to cancel. In the live broadcast this Thursday on TikTok, Gomez explained how the lupus medication is affecting her body: “When I take it, I tend to retain a lot of fluid, and that happens constantly, when I stop taking it, I lose weight.”
In addition to explaining why her weight is constantly changing, Selena also had a few words for her followers: “I want to support anyone who feels any kind of shame for whatever they’re going through, no one knows our true stories.” She went on to give encouragement to everyone who was following her at the time.
