Jay Withey, a resident of Cheektowaga, NY, has been praised for his heroic actions during a recent blizzard that hit the area. Withey, who works as a school bus driver, used his bus to rescue 20 stranded individuals and transport them to safety during the storm. His actions have earned him the gratitude of the community and a special reward: tickets to Super Bowl LVI.
The blizzard, which hit the Buffalo area in January 2023, caused widespread power outages and left many residents stranded in their homes. Withey, who was driving his school bus during the storm, came across a group of people who were stranded and in need of assistance. Without hesitation, he used his bus to transport them to a nearby shelter. He continued to rescue individuals throughout the storm, ultimately saving 20 people from the dangerous conditions.
Withey’s heroic actions have been widely recognized and praised by the community. The Buffalo Bills organization has also taken notice and has gifted him with two tickets to the upcoming Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida.
“Jay’s selfless actions saved lives, and we are so proud of him,” said Buffalo Bills President, Russ Brandon. “We wanted to give him a special reward for his heroism, and what better way to do that than to give him tickets to the biggest game of the year?”
Withey, who is a big Bills fan, said he was “over the moon” about the tickets and that “it’s a dream come true.” He added, “It’s not just about me; it’s about the 20 people I was able to help during the blizzard; that’s what I am most proud of.”
As a token of appreciation, Withey’s school district honored him in front of the school board in addition to having him honored by the Governor of New York.
