Unfortunately, a civilian has been killed as a result of a nightly terrorist attack carried out by Russia in Odessa, Governor Oleg Kiper reported on the Telegram platform. Previously, 18 injuries, including four children, had been reported in the same attack. Kiper also mentioned damage to civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, and even a religious institution.
Faced with this escalation of attacks, Andrii Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s presidential administration, has called for more defense missile systems and tactical missiles for the country. Odessa, which has been part of the World Heritage Site since January, has been a frequent target of Russian attacks due to its strategic importance as a coastal city and its relevance for maritime transit in the Black Sea region.
The attacks by the Russian army in Odessa have generated condemnation from Unesco since several museums have suffered damage. Despite the Russian military’s claims to target only military targets, the attacks have significantly affected the civilian population and the city’s infrastructure.
These developments add to the escalation of tensions in the region after the expiration of a cereal agreement crucial to the world diet that allowed the export of Ukrainian cereals. Tensions in the Black Sea have risen with Russian military exercises and missile fire in the area.
The situation in Odessa and other cities in southern Ukraine is becoming more worrying, as nighttime attacks and shelling have caused significant casualties and damage in the region. The international community continues to closely observe the development of these events and seeks solutions to stop the violence and protect the civilian population affected by these attacks.
