Local authorities reported Sunday that hikers found human remains in the area of Mount San Antonio, California, where British actor Julian Sands had disappeared five months ago while mountaineering.
According to the statement issued by the San Bernardino sheriff’s office, the remains were discovered Saturday morning by hikers, who contacted the Fontana sheriff’s office to report the find.
The human remains were taken to the coroner’s office for identification, and the process is expected to be completed next week.
Julian Sands, known for his role in the 1985 movie “Room with a View,” in which he starred alongside Helena Bonham Carter, disappeared on January 13 on Mount San Antonio, a mountain approximately 3,000 meters high located outside Los Angeles.
The 65-year-old actor was an experienced mountaineer and used to express his happiness at being near the summit of a mountain on a cold and glorious morning. He had three children, two of them with his wife, writer Evgenia Citkowitz.
During the period when Sands disappeared, California experienced a series of violent storms in December and January, with significant snowfall on peaks, including Mount San Antonio.
The summit of Mount San Antonio, which is the highest in the San Gabriel Mountain Range, is a popular destination for Los Angeles residents.
