After several weeks of investigation, the only person identified as the author of the racist insults against Vinicius during the RCD Mallorca-Real Madrid CF match at Son Moix has been sanctioned. The Standing Committee of the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance in Sport has proposed a fine of 4,000 euros and a ban on access to sports venues for a period of 12 months. The fan has been identified as the author of the racist insults uttered against Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior in the match held on February 5 at the Son Moix stadium.
The sanction imposed is greater than that proposed by the police, who proposed a punishment of 3,000 euros in fines and a ban on entering a sports venue for at least six months. LaLiga also denounced the fact that today’s crimes have already been punished before a Majorcan court.
The sanction comes after the home fans took the lead against the Brazilian striker during the match, which Real Madrid eventually won by the minimum. The sanction was imposed after a lengthy investigation, showing that Spanish sports bodies are taking the fight against discrimination in soccer seriously.
Racism and xenophobia are problems that affect the whole world of soccer, and the fight against such behavior is a priority for the sports authorities. The sanction imposed on the fan should serve as an example to other potential perpetrators of racist and xenophobic behavior in stadiums and remind them that there will be consequences if they are identified.
