Princess Leonor of Spain has announced that she will waive the monthly allowance received by students of the Spanish Armed Forces. This allowance corresponds to 60% of the salary established for subgroup C2, which is equivalent to about 417.67 euros per month after deducting the discounts corresponding to ISFAS and Social Security contributions. Once the students receive the appointment of ensign at the end of the second year, the remuneration increases and is around 668 euros per month with extraordinary payments.
Princess Leonor will begin her military training next academic year at the General Academy of Zaragoza and will follow in the footsteps of King Felipe VI in her military training, passing through the academies of the Army, the Air Force, and the Navy in three years. The Zarzuela Palace and the Executive have designed a condensed training program for Princess Leonor in three years.
Her incorporation will be in August, like the rest of the first-year students at the Zaragoza Army Academy, and, after the swearing-in of the flag in October, she will move on to the second year. The following year, she will join the Navy’s naval school in Marin, where she will have the opportunity to embark on the training ship Juan Sebastian Elcano as a midshipman and will finish her training at the Air and Space Army officer school. Unlike Princess Leonor, Princess Victoria of Sweden and Princess Elisabeth of Belgium have chosen to pursue university careers rather than military training.
