A new video has recently been released showing an almost movie-worthy police chase in which a police officer in Iowa, USA, climbed onto the hood of a speeding getaway car.
The incident took place in 2021, when officers from the Carroll City Police Department stopped a driver during a routine traffic stop. Shortly thereafter, they discovered that the passenger in the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Dennis Guider Jr., had a warrant for his arrest for violating his probation.
At that point, the driver exited his car, but Guider Jr. slid into the driver’s seat and prepared to escape. Faced with this situation, Officer Patrick McCarty drew his weapon and pointed it at the man in an attempt to dissuade him and get him to stop.
Instead of cooperating with authorities, Guider Jr. accelerated, and it was then that the officer jumped on the hood of the moving vehicle to prevent his escape. However, the individual did not stop and continued driving, ignoring the officer’s pleas for him to slow down.
McCarty managed to position himself on the roof of the car while several police vehicles joined the chase, which lasted approximately one minute. The scene came to an end when the driver turned onto a gravel lot and crossed a ditch. However, this maneuver caused the officer to lose his balance and go flying, suffering a broken back.
This month, Guider Jr. was convicted of causing serious injury with a vehicle and sentenced to five years in prison. The defendant claimed that he accelerated the car because he feared for his life after the officer pointed a gun at him.
