Nicolás Maduro received Colombian President Gustavo Petro at the Aquiles Nazoa cultural house, located in Caracas, for their fourth meeting since the reestablishment of relations between the two countries.
During the greeting, the official media of the regime informed us that the purpose of the meeting was to improve “economic, commercial, financial, political, and cultural cooperation relations” between Colombia and Venezuela.
The meeting was considered of great importance due to the fact that in the past relations between these two countries have been tense. However, since Petro assumed the presidency of Colombia, there have been improvements in the bilateral relationship.
The agenda of the meeting included issues of importance to both nations, such as trade and border security agreements. The participation of Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores, and the Colombian Foreign Minister, Álvaro Leyva Durán, was an indication of the importance of this meeting.
It should be noted that the meeting is taking place in the midst of corruption scandals in Colombia, which link President Petro’s eldest son, Gustavo Petro. At the same time, an “anti-corruption crusade” is being carried out in Venezuela, which has led to the arrest of several Chavista officials and the resignation of Tareck El Aissami.
The strengthening of relations between Colombia and Venezuela is of great importance not only for both nations but also for the region. A positive relationship between these two countries can have a positive impact on the stability and development of Latin America.
